why does Japan still have a 0.2% Christian rate?

Title : Why does Japan still have less than a 1 % Christian rate?

Another fact is that the Japanese Evangelical Church failed to evangelize Japan for the last 6 decades.
The main reason why Japan still has a 0.2% Christian rate (240,000 of 125 million) is because Japanese Christian leaders misjudged Emperor Hirohito and the Shinto Ideology.

The Emperor never intended to be worshiped as a god . He became a symbol of Japan and being worshipped by the Imperial government of General Hideki Tojo. Gen. Tojo used Emperor Hirohito as a Shinto god in order to motivate the Japanese to fight against Christian nations such as the United States and European countries. Gen. Tojo created emperor worship to unite the Japanese for the war. The Emperor was used as a motivational tool. The Imperial Japanese government tried to control Japan by using the Emperor. That’s why Hirohito denounced his deity after WWII and became a symbol for the nation of Japan. He was never a god to begin with.

After WWII, thousands of missionaries came and started their ministry to the lost and broken Japanese. Japanese Christian leaders were persecuted in the name of the living god Hirohito during the War. Therefore, Missionaries and Christian leaders demonize Hirohito and started a campaign against Hirohito saying he was a war criminal. Christian church has distasteful heritage against Emperor and that tendency still remains among evangelical churches. This misjudgment and anti-Emperor campaign further delayed evangelizing Japan. Japanese society knew that Emperor was a puppet for the imperial government. Despite of his denunciation as a god, Christian leaders insisted Emperor was a war criminal. Church leaders for their unforgiving attitude, turned off ordinary Japanese people.

Why only 0.2% Christian rate in Japan?
It was caused not by external issues such as Shinto idol worship or Buddhist ideology. It was not caused by the prideful nature of the Japanese. Evangelism was unfruitful because Christian leaders did not practice their faith in Christ. Their unforgiving attitude toward Emperor Hirohito back fired on them. The Emperor was not the reason for their persecution during the war. He was also a victim of the war. Christian leaders were not able to forgive him for a crime he did not commit. Without forgiveness, there can be no revival. Christian leaders were not mature enough to identify the true cause of their stumbling block. Christians were unable to extend forgiveness to the Emperor, actually he did not do anything. Gen Tojo was the one who caused this problem even promoted it. Anti-emperor policy was the key that delayed evangelism in Japan.

Instead of forgiveness, the Missionaries and Christian leaders promoted an anti-emperor propaganda. 96% of the Japanese people approved of Emperor Hirohito as a national symbol just like the British Royal family. Christian evangelism limited their audience to the remaining  of 4% Christian sympathizers. This error in thinking was made after WWII. Nikki (Nihon Christ Denomination) had majority  of the protestant denomination in Japan , they were outspoken against Emperor Hirohito immediately after the WWII. No wonder the Japanese people were turned off by Christianity. It was a simple tactical error in thinking by Christian leaders made 70 years ago, that's why Japan is still not evangelized. Because of this mistake which Christian leaders and foreign missionaries made. The problem wasn't Emperor Hirohito, the problem remained  Christains in thier ignorance and unforgiveness. Japan was influenced by those Christian leaders, Unfortunate historical fast that  missionaries ( linguistically unprepared) did not have descernment.

What can we do to reverse this?
We must recognize Emperor as our National leader. We will not worship him but express our respect as of the head of the Nation.
Christian leaders must accept and respect the Emperor. We must recognize him as a leader. Christians must grow up and admit the mistake which they made in order to gain the trust of the Japanese people, Christian leaders must confess their sins and repent of un-forgiveness toward Emperor Hirohito publicly.

I can praise the Emperor shouting “Banzai” (long live the Emperor) I worship God, Jesus Christ at the same time showing my respect to new Emperor Naruhito (who took the throne in May 2019)  It seems that Christians in Japan are still allergic to the Emperor. That is the key stumbling block to the non-Christian society in Japan. Christians have not yet realized this spiritual stumbling issue. As a descendant of Masashige Kusunoki who died to protect Emperor Godaigo in 14th century. I desire the Emperor to be the head of our nation again. It is in my blood that I desire the Emperor to be our national leader. It is a matter of our Japanese identity. “Taisei-houkan” return the power to the Emperor. This should be the ultimate political goal for all Japanese, Banzai to the Emperor!

At this time, no Imperial government should control our Royal family, they can truly govern Japan as a nation since they are the founders of our nation. Take back the power to the Emperor! He can govern Japan better than the current primer Abe. The Emperor’s return to power should trigger a true revival for Japan. If we evangelize the Emperor, 96% of Japanese may look to Jesus (they may not yet believe but still they would acknowledge Christianity as the religion of the Emperor) The most effective way to evangelize Japanese is to convert the Emperor. We can change Japan and revival would occur on the national level. That is what Francisco Xavier did in 16th century. When Christianity was first introduced to Japanese by a Jesuit. He converted “Daimyo”the head of the Prefecture. The entire region became Christian under a Christian leader.

0.2% conversion rate is a man made number for Japan. We can not blame God for the 0.2%. Japanese people needs to repent of their sins. However, Christian leaders must repent of their sins and not hold on to any bitterness towards the Emperor. Revival will come to Japan after the repentance of the Christian leaders. No repentance, no revival. This is God’s standard which the Christian standard. National revival requires the same. We need to humble ourselves before God. Think about it.

thanks for the comment regarding to my blog about the Japanese evangelism.
Please read other articles which may help you understand the Japanese evangelism. I would recommend "a hidden agenda of the Japanese church disclosed" which is my hypothesis of the failure of the Japanese Church and its ministry.
It is the time to acknowledge the problem head on. Otherwise, Japan will remain under 0.2% conversion rate.
Japanese Christians are faking for so long. It is the time to get real. Only real faith brings lost souls to the Lord. The time is now.
